PHP upgrade to 5.3.17

09th Oct 2012

We would like to let you know that our system administrators plan to upgrade PHP on all servers to version 5.3.17. The upgrade will occur on October 12, 2012, between 12:00 and 13:00 UTC.

The new version is mainly a bugfix release, and changes in the behavior of PHP are not expected. However, if you use PHP software for your site, we advise you to check it after the upgrade, just to be sure that everything is working properly. No service outage is expected during the upgrade.

MySQL4 service will be suspended on Oct 1

14th Jun 2012

This message is to inform you that we will be stopping the MySQL4 service on all our machines, on Oct 1, 2012.

MySQL4 is extremely outdated as a technology. Its official support ended back in 2008, and we have repeatedly announced that we can stop MySQL4 at any time after Jan 1, 2009. We managed to keep MySQL4 for over three years after this date, but its presence has become a serious obstacle in front of the development of our hosting setup. Therefore, we will fully suspend MySQL4 on Oct 1, 2012.

If you are still using software that relies on MySQL4, we strongly suggest that you make it MySQL5 compatible, and convert your MySQL4 database to MySQL5. You can check this section in our FAQ for more information:
http://www.suresupport.com/faq.php/71/446

IMPORTANT: If your software is not set to use a MySQL5 database, it will stop working on Oct 1, 2012.

If you have any additional questions, you can always contact us through our support site http://suresupport.com.

PHP 5.3 installed on our production servers

18th Aug 2011

We are in the middle of a campaign to have PHP 5.3 installed on our production servers. As a part of it, our system administrators will install PHP 5.3 on server s213 on Aug 19, 2011, at 02:00 AM SGT.

PHP 5.2 will still be available on the server after that, but PHP 5.3 will become the default PHP interpreter. If you are using PHP software, we advise that you check your site after the update, to make sure that everything is running properly. There are some incompatibilities between PHP 5.2 and 5.3, but we have taken measures to avoid disruption of customer sites.

Note to customers using Zend Optimizer:
As Zend Optimizer is no longer supported in PHP 5.3, we will automatically set all accounts on which we find Zend encoded files to use PHP 5.2. You need to contact your software vendor for assistance on making your software compatible with PHP 5.3.
